In 1993 the International Music Festival "Slavianskiy Bazaar" became a member of FIDOF (International Federation of Festival Organizations) which meant that the festival was recognized at the international level.

It was the first time that the Culture Palace of Trade Unions which is now called "KIM", Chagall Art Center, and the cinema "Spartak" had become festival venues. 7 concerts were held in the amphitheatre, 7 concerts in the Culture Palace of Trade Unions, there were 6 press conferences given in the City Cultural Centre, 7 meetings of journalists with artists called "Rendez-vous with a Star", and 1 meeting of "Debate Club".

The artists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland took part in the festival again.

For the fist time one could see the flying of Bulgarian, Kirghiz, Lithuanian, Slovak, Turkish, Yugoslav flags on the flagpoles.

Within the frameworks of the festival Belarusian and Russian Ministry of Culture representatives signed an agreement of cooperation on July 23, 1993.

The presenters of the festival concerts were Elena Spiridovich (Belarus), Elena Kosyachenko (Ukraine), and Vladimir Berezin (Russia).

60 thousand people visited the festival concerts. The cheapest ticket cost 100 rubles, the most expensive - 3 thousand.

Rain has become a traditional thing for the festival and it started in 1993. The concert of the Russian Day took place to the music of a heavy shower pouring down on the people in the amphitheatre. The record level of one-day precipitations fell on July 23 - it was 212% of the usual ten-day period, 64% of the overall amount fell between 15.50 and 19.20. In spite of the critical weather conditions there were a lot of people at the evening concert. The Russian Day was a huge success and the audience did not spare their applause. Other festival days were accompanied by a good joyful atmosphere and good mood of the people. All concerts were sold out and the performers were showered with flowers.

36 participants took part in the Young Singers Competition and for the fist time in the competitions there were people from Bulgaria, Kirghizia, Slovakia, and Yugoslavia.

National Artist of Russia, President of Moscow Center "Russian Song" Nadiezhda Babkina was elected chairperson of the International Jury of Young Singers Competition, which was decided at the meeting of the Jury. Co-chairmen were National Artist of Belarus, leader of the State Ensemble "Pesnyary" Vladimir Muliavin: National Artist of Ukraine Nina Matvienko and a popular Yugoslav composer Rade Radivoevich.

Casting of lots was organized as a show at which the participants drew the lots in the form of different musical instruments - pipes, small drums, with numbers on them.

A Yugoslav singer Madam Piano got number 1.

It was the first time the participant had sung to the phonogram "-1".

At the Young Singers Competition a new prize was introduced which was given from the press and a singer from Ukraine Andrei Shpak received it. The journalists presented him with a diploma and a prize - a living rooster with painted feathers.

The festival and the competition changed the life of the person who got the Grand Prize - Taisia Povali. A year before the competition she had been sacked from Kiev Philharmonic Society because there she had been found professionally unfit. Six months after "Slavianski Bazaar" Ukrainian musical experts called her the best Ukrainian singer in 1993.

About 300 journalists representing 50 Slavonic periodicals came to the festival.

Russia was represented by journalists from "Izvestiya", "Literature Newspaper", radio "Mayak", TV Russia, "Ostankino" and others. Ukrainian mass media were represented by their 12 greatest periodicals and Belarusian - by 8. For the first time Bulgarian journalists appeared at the festival from the newspapers "Duma" and "Maritsa". The concerts were shown live by Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian TV stations.

On July, 23 the first disc presentation took place. The disc was called "Strange Dream" and it was a collection of songs performed by a young singer from Moscow, laureate of the Young Singers Competition - Sabina.

On the first day of the festival the press center was opened. Its programme contained a lot of interesting things. There were again meetings with stars, the ones that the journalists like so much because they make their lives much easier. Originally they were called "Rendez-vous with a Star", but the name was changed - it became then "Star Hour". The first guest of the "Rendez-vous" was a singer and a composer Igor Nikolayev.

There was also a presentation of Mark Chagall Center. Afterwards all festival exhibitions were organized there. Now Mark Chagall Center is called Mark Chagall Museum.

In 1993 a popular Moscow journalist Sergey Shustitskiy started making a programme called "Diary of the Festival". There was no place in the festival city which did not see his camera. Once the journalist even flew the air balloon in order to see better what was going on in the city.

Within the frameworks of the Ukrainian Day the film called "American Boy" was shown at the Cinema "Spartak" followed by the meeting with the author of the script Yuriy Rogoza.

For the first time a competition for the journalists was organized there. For the most interesting, smart and up-to-date materials the following people were awarded with original ceramic vases with flowers: editor-in-chief of musical programmes of "Mayak Radio" Ludmila Dubovtseva (Russia), editor-in-chief of the musical newspaper "Veslo" Alexander Yagolnik (Ukraine), and Belarusian journalist, editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Slavianski Bazaar" Dmitriy Podberezskiy.

"Jazz Club" was opened. The first band to perform there was "Daigest" from St. Petersburg. The presenter of the programme since that time has always been Vladimir Feyertag. At the end of the day, when all competitions and conferences were over, "Jazz Club" opened its doors at night for singers, journalists, guests and participants of the festival.

For the first time there was a "round table" meeting of the managers working in the show business in Eastern Europe.

It was also the first time a dance party for young people was organized at "Slavianski Bazaar". It was called "Disco Bazaar" and its presentation took place on July 21. The first people to perform there were Andrei Potemkin, "Mister Maloy", Vlad Stashevskiy and Svetlana Vladimirskaya. "Disco Bazaar" was also a good opportunity for young artists to present themselves. "Disco Bazaar" parties were held in the sport and cultural complex of the amphitheatre and in 1993 seven performances were held. Since that time they have become a regular event.

1993 was the year when all festival concerts got their names. The word "night" was a predominant one in them. Belarusian concert was called "When July Night Comes...", Ukrainian concert - "Ukrainian Star Night". This tradition has remained and a lot of concerts were given "night" names. Among other concerts there were "When the Candles are Lit", "Rock at Night".

There were six issues of the festival newspaper "Slavianski Bazaar". Its overall circulation was 20 thousand copies. The resource base for publishing the newspaper was the editorial office of the newspaper "Vitebskiy Kurier".

It was the first time for theatre art to be introduced at the festival. Honoured Artist of Russia Viktor Tatarskiy presented his one-actor-play "Evil Spirit in Moscow".

It was that year that the famous festival currency "Vasiliok" appeared - a banknote with a picture of a cornflower growing on the staff. It was the emblem of the festival. All participants and guests of the festival got those banknotes for them not to have problems with the local currency.

One more prize was introduced. It was called "Gold Pen" and given to those who promoted the ideas of the festival at the high professional level. The prize was made by Vitebsk artists Yuri and Vladimir Rudenko. It has the form of a pen dipped in the inkpot, made of bronze and trimmed with cupronickel. The first person to receive the prize was a Moscow journalist representing the newspaper "Culture" Mariam Ignatieva. One more journalist from Moscow - Otar Kushinashvili from the newspaper "Noviy Vzgliad" was awarded with the prize "The most Active Journalist".

12 posters were published for the festival each of them carrying the emblem of the festival.

"Crafts Town" was opened for the first time - an original marketplace of traditional folk art and craft. 70 masters of folk arts from different corners of the Vitebsk Region arrived to present their works there.

"Silver wedding" of Sofia Rotaru and Anatoliy Evdokimenko happened on the last day of the festival.
