The stage of the Summer Amphitheatre saw its first concert in 1988 – before the First All-Union Festival of Polish Song.
The Summer Amphitheatre is the main venue of “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk”. In 2005 the concerts of the Ceremonies of the Festive Opening and Closing of the festival, together with Gala-concerts of Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian Art Masters and solo concerts of pop stars will take place here. The area of the concert stage is 430 square meters. The capacity is 5,000 seats. The sports and culture complex of the Summer Amphitheatre also includes tennis courts, dance and fitness studios, a café-bar, a restaurant and shops. The location of the Summer Amphitheatre is unique – the city center, the crossroads of the major transport roads coexisting with a park, a stream, and a view of an old brick bridge across it. Such expressive city view is perceived as an element of the stage design.
The location of the Summer Amphitheatre has long standing artistic traditions. A hundred year ago Lerry circus (known to us from the works of J. Pen, Chagall’s first teacher) was situated on this spot.
The image of the Vitebsk Amphitheatre is well-known in the CIS countries, in Eastern and Western Europe, and America – all the places, where the festival concerts were broadcasted.
