At night before the Festive Opening of the festival the “last romantic” of Slav variety performance Valery Meladze took part in a solo concert at the stage of the Summer Amphitheatre. The singer who has not been at the Festival for quite a long period said:
- We have been watching as “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk” happens to anybody except for us. And we are here!
It had not been enough time for the stage to cool down after the performance of Alla Pugacheva, whose concert program has opened the jubilee edition of “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk”, as Valery Meladze proceeded to light up the audience. The first song set the mood of the whole concert. “Eto byl neravny boi” (It was unfair battle). It was really a battle as the singer had to “beat off” and fans’ exclamations and applauds with his famous hits and new songs. After the song “Sovershat’ bezumstva po nocham” (Make madness at night) Valery appealed to all the beloved to confess each other in love under the accompaniment of the composition “Oskolky Leta” (Splinters of Summer). The battle of feelings and emotions was going on. Meladze was playing with the audience’s feelings: he made them cry with old melody “Mechta” (Dream), become a single whole with the song “Krasiva” (Beautifully). Sad motives were followed by fiery rhythms, under which the audience danced, during the pauses the singer was joking diligently. An unexpected surprise warned the security service a little bit. The performance of the song “Okean i tree reki” (The Ocean and three rivers) with VIA GRA featuring was impossible without girls. So the singer invited three of the bravest Vitebsk girls to the stage. Instead of three girls the singer got sixteen! The song was renamed into “The Ocean and 16 Rivers”. The performance delighted the girls and the audience as well.
Meladze, a women’s minion, gathered bouquets from women after each song.
Meladze has been at a variety stage for 14 years. His old hits are still remembered and sung and his new ones are at the top of music hit parades.
The songs from different albums were performed during two ours. Valery Meladze was cordial with the audience. Sincere wishes were expressed from the stage. The singer raised the glass of wine to Belarus, the festival “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk” and the unity of Slav nations. At the end of his performance Valery Meladze thanked all musical collective and personally his brother Konstantin, the author of his songs. However, no performer leaves Vitebsk festival venue very quickly. The song “Sara” was performed an encore by the singer together with the audience.
